| Dear Friends of the BHS Innovation Fund, One of the great things I have come to admire about working with the BHS Innovation Fund is its ability to give Brookline High School educators the time, flexibility, and resources they need to reimagine what teaching and learning could look like. This year, that commitment came to life and addresses one of the most pressing issues facing schools today: the rise of artificial intelligence in and beyond the classroom. Thanks to your support, the Fund awarded more than $35,000 to launch the Innovation Fellow for the 2025–26 school year.  BHS English teacher Evan Mousseau is serving as the Innovation Fellow for Centering the Humans of the Humanities in the Age of AI. As this year’s fellow, Evan is helping the humanities departments navigate a fast-changing AI landscape while keeping students’ creativity, critical thinking, and intellectual independence at the center. His work focuses on three areas… Supporting teachers in using AI tools to enhance their practice.Equipping students to use AI responsibly and ethically.Preserving the uniquely human heart of reading, writing, speaking, and thinking in our classrooms. After convening a “Humanities in the Loop” think tank over the summer, teachers explored new tools, reviewed emerging research, and began redesigning units and assessments for “AI-aware” classrooms.  “This fellowship is giving us faculty the time and structure to wrestle with these types of questions together instead of facing them alone.” Emily McGinnis, BHS Educator Throughout the school year, Evan has become a trusted guide for colleagues who are wondering what AI means for everything from homework help to academic integrity. He has been curating articles and resources, working with librarians and administrators, and helping teachers ask the right questions: When can AI be a useful scaffold, and when does it get in the way of real learning? How do we talk with students about AI in honest, developmentally appropriate ways? |
